Net Zero IQ: Ireland's Plan To Kill 200,000 Cows

Farmers are pushing back against the Irish government’s plan to kill 200,000 cattle to meet their carbon emission goal—and we’re glad they are. Many countries that are aiming at reducing emissions have targeted the agricultural sector the hardest, but this is a new level of war against real meat. An entire country is actually considering mass slaughter of their cow herd to meet a climate goal set by bureaucrats. Of course, the ones writing these propositions have failed to consider or failed to care about the most important questions.

Whose cows will be slaughtered? Are some farmers spared and others destroyed at random? What will happen to the thousands of Irish jobs and livelihoods in this sector? Do they all get employed at a fake meat factory producing 10x the emissions their farms ever did? Will the dairy industry or meat industry collapse as a result? Do any of the people who care about the environment also care about the lives of 200,000 cattle that will be wiped out for no good reason?

The destabilization a decision like this could cause is monumental. From our perspective, it seems Ireland has fallen victim to their own slippery slopes of Moher. It all started with an “initiative” to reduce emissions, which soon became a mandate. When the farmers can’t/won’t meet the unreasonable requirements or pay the fines imposed, the government steps in to enforce the net zero goal at all costs. What was sold as a “create a more sustainable industry and country” in 15 to 30 years has become a slaughter of 200,000 cows only a few years later.

We don’t know about you, but we’re Dublin down. Real meat is here to stay whether they like it or not. It’s true if you give the government an inch, they’ll take a mile. Likewise, if you give them a net zero initiative, they’ll also take nearly a quarter of a million cattle. The Net Zero IQ culling might feel like the culmination of this story, but it might just be the beginning.
