Tyson Ground Beef Recalled For Having “Mirror-Like” Material in Meat

Just a couple weeks ago, Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc., recalled 93,697 pounds of raw ground beef that was contaminated with “mirror-like” material. If you often eat ground beef, you probably know that mirrors are not a normal ingredient. The recalled products were sold at grocery stores in Texas. Reports came in from customers about the “mirror-like” contaminants in the ground beef and the recall was issued on November 16th. Some of the meat, and therefore mirrors, could still be in consumer’s homes. If you have any of the meat below, then please throw out the Tyson meat for your safety:

  • 10-lb. chubs containing “HILL COUNTRY FARE GROUND BEEF 73% LEAN/ 27% FAT with BEST BEFORE OR FREEZE BY: NOV 25, 2022.”
  • 5-lb. chubs containing “HILL COUNTRY FARE GROUND BEEF 73% LEAN/ 27% FAT with BEST BEFORE OR FREEZE BY: NOV 25, 2022.”
  • 5-lb. chubs containing “H-E-B GROUND CHUCK GROUND BEEF 80% LEAN/ 20% FAT.”

These days, people want to see themselves and their values in the companies they support, but mirrors in your meat might be a bit too far. E.coli and other bacteria are the main reasons for ground beef recalls, so having extraneous material is definitely not the norm. The material in the beef was “reflective and hard” both the FSIS and Tyson said.
